Principal’s Message

Greetings, Pilot family!

My name is Dr. Amber McKinney-Shivers, the proud Principal of Curtiss Middle School. As an alumnus of Curtiss Middle School and a community resident, it is a privilege to continue my work in fostering positive learning experiences for all students at Curtiss Middle School.

My vision supports the LAUSD Strategic Plan, preparing our students to be Ready for the World. Curtiss Middle School is Carson's GEM. At Curtiss Middle School, we are preparing our students to be PILOTS: Purposeful, Innovative, Leaders that are Optimistic, Transcendent Scholars.

I am excited for this new year. We can achieve great things if we all work together as a team. I look forward to meeting each of you!

We at Glenn Hammond Curtiss MS will immerse our students in an instructional program centered in engineering, interdisciplinary problem-solving, collaboration, and critical thinking while increasing their exposure to science, engineering and design, the arts, and leadership opportunities.

Winter Academy at Curtiss MS

Mark your calendars! Join us January 5-9, 2026 for our Winter Academy that empowers students with 5 days of academic support and enrichment.
More information and registration information can be found at LAUSD.org/winteracademy. Students who enroll in Winter Academy will receive a Curtiss Ticket. Students who complete Winter Academy will receive a special prize.
